In the early twentieth century, three commercial schools in Central Asia, Uzbekistan, trained specialists for trade and industry firms and banks.
Officially, the training of high-ranking economists began on May 12, 1918 with the establishment of Turkestan State University. The Faculty of Sociology and Economics within this university has begun to train economists with higher education for Central Asia on a regular basis.
On February 15, 1931, the Planning Institute for the training of economists was established in Tashkent. In time, the university was renamed the Institute of National Economy and later the Institute of Commercial Cooperatives.
